The Commissioner has received a letter from Po Yan Cheng, a youth participant at the Asia Pacific Regional Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect (APCCAN) 2009 conference.
Po thanked the Commissioner for her support for the conference’s Young Participant Program and updated the Commissioner on child advocacy developments in Hong Kong.
Po was keen to share the news that a team at The University of Hong Kong are proposing a new research program on establishing a Children’s Commission in Hong Kong.
Po, who works with the Hong Kong based child advocacy group Kids’ Dream, also sent the Commissioner a copy of A Child’s Eye View of the UNCRC. This book, published by the Hong Kong Committee for Children’s Rights, translates the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into an easy-to-read story for children. The story is accompanied by a series of beautiful illustrations by children.
The Commissioner has congratulated Po for her commitment to her child advocacy work. The Commissioner has also sent Po information about our functions and the functions of Children’s Commissions in other States and Territories to help with her future work.
A copy of A Child’s Eye View of the UNCRC is available from the Commissioner’s office. More information about the book can be found here. More information about Kids’ Dream Hong Kong can be found here.
