Bryan Smith - Executive Director (FCQ), Barry Salmon - Assistant Commissioner, Gail Slocombe - Executive Director (PeakCare) and the Hon Phil Reeves - Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Sport.Foster and Kinship Carer Week is an annual celebration of foster carers, kinship carers, their families and extended networks. It is also an opportunity for the community to recognise their contribution to the care of children and young people in Queensland.
The event is coordinated by the Foster and Kinship Care Week Committee, under the sponsorship of PeakCare Queensland and Foster Care Queensland.
The theme for 2010 - Communities at play - recognises the vital role that foster and kinship carers, along with their communities play in strengthening the lives of the children and young people. The Commission actively links with foster and kinship carers and also works closely with PeakCare Queensland and its member organisations as well as Foster Care Queensland throughout the year to promote understanding of the Commission’s mandate and role across each of its functions, particularly the Community Visitor Program which regularly visits children in care to verify their safety and wellbeing and if necessary, advocate to resolve any issues raised during visits. Through the partnerships forged with organisations like Foster Care Queensland and PeakCare Queensland, the Commission is able to actively contribute to achieving better outcomes for children in care.
A number of events were held throughout the State to celebrate Foster and Kinship Carer Week, one of these was at the Lollipops Play Centre for children at Cannon Hill, Brisbane.
