Important participants in the blue card system recently joined with the Commission to share information about key work priorities and directions for 2010, and to explore opportunities for strategic linkages and collaboration.
At the Commission’s Blue Card System Partners Forum, held on 8 March, participants reflected upon their interactions with the blue card system, and provided suggestions for improving information sharing and collaboration in the future.
Commissioner for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Elizabeth Fraser said the forum aimed to inform stakeholders of the Commission’s current and future focus, particularly in regards to the blue card system, and the various information resources that are available and are being developed.
Ms Fraser said a key focus of the forum was to engage with key stakeholders and peak bodies to ensure consistency in the dissemination of information provided.
“The forum recognised that the Commission has an important role to play in enabling the blue card system to operate but that we can only contribute a part – we need to work together with stakeholders to identify and reduce risks of harm to children and young people in their service environments, so that the blue card system can operate as intended,” she said.
“We are keen to see improvements for children and are therefore always supportive of actions aimed at reducing risks for young people and promoting better developmental outcomes for them, not only in Queensland but nationally as well.”
Ms Fraser said she was encouraged by the enthusiasm of participants, who expressed interest in continuing networking opportunities to achieve better outcomes for children.
Service groups represented at the forum ranged from sporting and recreation groups to representatives from early childhood and education services. Community representatives also attended from a range of fields, including human services and social work, psychology and advocacy groups.
