Thank you to outgoing CDCRC members

Commissioner for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Elizabeth Fraser, Assistant Commissioner Barry Salmon and the Secretariat team would like to thank all members of the 2007-10 Queensland Child Death Case Review Committee (CDCRC) for their valuable contribution to advancing the work of the Committee over the past three years.

The CDCRC is an independent body responsible for assessing the reviews conducted by the Department of Communities on the deaths of children and young people known to the child protection system in the three years before their deaths.

Commissioner Elizabeth Fraser is chairperson of the Committee, Assistant Commissioner Barry Salmon is a Committee member and the Commission itself provides secretariat support.

Members of the CDCRC are appointed on a part-time basis for three years. Each month over the past three years, the 2007-10 Committee has met to consider these reviews. The Committee has been instrumental in changing the role of the CDCRC from building the capacity of the Department of Communities to conduct reviews, to utilising its review process to conduct a wider practice audit of service delivery to at-risk children. This change was reflected in developing and publishing new review criteria in November 2008.

In considering the reviews, the CDCRC identifies service system issues, and where appropriate, makes recommendations or refers issues to other agencies for their consideration and appropriate action. The work of the CDCRC contributes to improving service delivery to children and young people in the child protection system.

The contributions and commitment to the role of the CDCRC in strengthening outcomes for children in the child protection system is highly valued in terms of the quality of participation and contributions.   The Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner recognise and deeply appreciate that commitment and ongoing work of all Committee members, and extend their sincere thanks to those members who have completed their time with the CDCRC.

The new members of the CDCRC will be inducted on 17 November 2010 and will be part of the CDCRC for three years. The first meeting of the CDCRC with its new members is Thursday 16 December 2010. Information on the new members will be placed on this website shortly.
