In additional to tabling an Annual Report, the Commission undertakes a formal review of performance each quarter, to assess the progress and achievements in relation to its mandate, strategic objectives, key operational deliverables and budget.
The quarterly review takes place in a meeting involving the Executive Management Team and all Program Directors. Inputs to quarterly review meetings are gathered from throughout the Commission by the Strategic Coordination and Reporting team who collate information into a quarterly report.
The report is provided to participants in advance of the meeting, allowing them time to review, and put their Programs achievement into overall context. This helps facilitate engagement in discussion on the wider Commission activities.
At the quarterly review meetings, the Commission’s planned performance for the year (as stated in the State Budget Services Delivery Statements) is compared with actual performance achieved for the quarter in question and year to date.
Directors provide progress updates on performance with differences between planned (target) and actual performance discussed, actions to address gaps outlined, and opportunities to determine where improvements could be made in future (e.g. resource allocation, key projects completion timeframes) identified.
Discussion also allows any new or emerging operational risks or issues that may impact on or effect future performance to be highlighted and discussed. Quarterly review meetings provide a mechanism to plan for what new initiatives the Commission should focus on and how we can position ourselves to best undertake these. It is also a critical feature of open, transparent and accountable governance.
The next meeting to report on the first quarter of this financial year will occur on Monday 1 November.
