UPDATE: Commission responds to QPS computer system error affecting blue card processing

On 31 August 2011, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) issued a statement concerning an error in their computer systems that prevented the Commission, and other relevant agencies, being notified of certain offences being reported which inform employment screening processes.

The QPS confirmed this computer system error affected usual reporting information procedures between 25 May and 19 August 2011.

The QPS advised that 57 blue card applicants and holders with changes in their criminal history had not been reported to the Commission during this period.

The Commission would like to reassure all employers, parents and other stakeholders engaged in the blue card system, that fortunately none of the individuals concerned have been charged with any child-related sexual offences.

Upon being notified of the changes relating to the 57 individuals, the Commission has taken immediate steps to appropriately action these matters, in accordance with established procedures for responding to advice of this kind. This includes notifying the relevant individuals, and where applicable, their employers, of the change in criminal history and informing them of their obligations under the Commission’s Act. For employers, this includes using their Risk Management Strategy to address any potential risks created by the individual’s change in criminal history.

The Commission’s decision about the eligibility of all these people to continue to hold or be issued with a blue card will be made as soon as possible and the individuals and their employers advised of the outcome.
