Daniel Morcombe Foundation Presentation

On Wednesday 14 December 2011, the Commissioner for Children and Young People and Child Guardian, Elizabeth Fraser, welcomed Denise and Bruce Morcombe – the Queensland Australians of the Year – to the Commission and presented a cheque for $1400, donated by Commission staff. The donation was accompanied with a certificate of acknowledgement for the efforts of the Foundation in promoting child protection throughout Queensland and Australia.

Commission staff took part in a variety of fundraising activities leading up to the Day for Daniel on 28 October and culminated in a 5km walk around Southbank and the CBD.

Commission staff gathered to hear the Morcombe’s share some of their inspirational story and journey to highlight the great work that the Daniel Morcombe Foundation which strives to educate children and communities about personal safety and harm prevention.

The Commission heard that the Foundation also provides financial assistance to victims of crime and actively engages with schools and community organisations with key messages about child protection and harm prevention. The Morcombe’s presentation was a touching illustration of how they have used the tragedy of their personal loss as a catalyst to inspire and educate others.

The Commissioner expressed her heartfelt appreciation for how Bruce and Denise Morcombe are tirelessly as ambassadors for safety of children and young people.
