Safe environments for young people brochure |
Child protection risk management strategy workshop Organisations and individuals providing regulated child-related services are responsible for fostering safe service environments for children. Since 17 January 2005, organisations regulated by the Commission's Act have been required to develop and implement child-protection risk management strategies. Following the introduction of this requirement, the Commission has provided information, assistance and reminders to organisations about their child protection risk management obligations. The minimum standard for a child protection risk management strategy has now been specified in the Commission for Children and Young People Amendment Regulation (No.1) 2006 and is effective from 1 January 2007. The Commissioner anticipates that by 1 January 2007 organisations regulated by the Commission's Act would have developed a statement that they have considered the minimum requirements of a risk management strategy as outlined in the regulation and have policies and procedures in place to protect children and young people from harm. In 2007, the Commission will continue to offer child protection risk management workshops throughout Queensland. Organisations regulated by the Commission's Act are encouraged to attend a workshop and enhance their understanding of risk management and work towards documenting the policies and procedures in their workplace to protect children and young people from harm. The Commission has created an information sheet explaining what a risk management strategy is and why it is now required. |
The Commission has developed a workshop to clarify the purpose of a child protection risk management strategy and explain what it means in practice. Participants in the workshops will learn to assess the risk management strategies they currently have in place, and understand how to address any gaps in their policies, training and risk management systems.
