Directors of a non-state school governing body

Directors of non-state school governing bodies are required to hold a blue card or exemption card.

The Commission has an obligation to notify the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board of the outcome of an application made by a director of a non-state school governing body and any relevant changes to that person's status as a card holder.

For more information about the requirements for directors, please visit the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board website at www.nssab.qld.edu.au

How do you apply for an exemption card if you are a registered teacher or police officer?

If you are a registered teacher or police officer you will need to apply for an exemption card, not a blue card. You can do this by completing the 'Exemption card business application' form (PDF, 269KB), ticking the 'director of a non-state school governing body' category.

There is no application fee for an exemption card and it remains valid as long as you continue to be a registered teacher or police officer, unless cancelled or suspended earlier by the Commission.

Please note, the Education (Accreditation of Non-State Schools) Act 2001 requires you to have a positive exemption notice and card before you can commence your work as a director.

How do you apply for a blue card if you are not a registered teacher or police officer?

You need to apply for a blue card. You can do this by completing the 'Business (B) application' form (PDF, 295KB), ticking the 'director of a non-state school governing body' category.

If you do not receive payment for your work as a director or you only receive out-of-pocket expenses, you do not need to provide the prescribed application fee with your application. However, you will need to complete and attach a statutory declaration form to your application stating that you perform this role for no financial reward.

You must receive your positive notice and blue card before you can commence your work as a director.
