I am a volunteer through a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Licenced Operator (e.g. school, club, association). I assist children and young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Do I need a blue card/exemption card?
Yes, unless an exemption applies.
There are three categories of regulated employment that commonly apply to volunteers in this instance, depending on who you are affiliated or working with.
Please check the categories below for further information and also specific information about your blue card/exemption card requirements or any exemptions that might apply to you:
You can apply for a blue card by submitting a 'Volunteer (V) application' form (PDF, 286KB) and selecting the appropriate category or check with your organisation as they may have a pre-filled form.
Please note, you must hold a blue card before you can commence this work.
I want to volunteer with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, but I am not affiliated with a Licenced Operator. Do I need a blue card/exemption card?

If you would like to volunteer to assist children who are participating in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, but you are not affiliated with a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Licenced Operator, you may need to apply for a blue card/exemption card as a volunteer through the Queensland State Award Office. You should not complete a form from the Commission's website. Please contact the Queensland State Award Office who will provide you with a blue card/exemption card application form if required.

I am a paid employee who assists children and young people who are participating in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Do I need a blue card/exemption card?
Yes, unless an exemption applies.
There are three categories of regulated employment that commonly apply to paid employees in this instance, depending on who they are affiliated or working with.
Please check the categories below for further information and also specific information about your blue card requirements or any exemptions that might apply to you:
You can apply for a blue card by submitting a 'Paid employee (P) application' form (PDF, 294KB) and selecting the appropriate category.
Please note, as a paid employee you are able to commence work after you have lodged your application with the Commission.
