Massage therapists

I am a massage therapist working for an organisation.  Do I need a blue card?

Massage therapists will require a blue card when providing a health service to a child which requires physical contact or where the service is provided while no-one else is present, if they work, or are likely to work, for at least:

  • eight consecutive days, or
  • once a week, each week, over four weeks, or
  • once a fortnight, each fortnight, over eight weeks, or
  • once a month, each month, over six months.

You can apply for a blue card by submitting a 'Paid employment (P) application' form (PDF, 295KB) and selecting the 'health, counselling and support services' category of regulated employment.

Please note as a paid employee, you are able to commence work after you have lodged your application with the Commission.

I am a massage therapist running my own business.  Do I need a blue card?

Under the 'health, counselling and support services' category of regulated employment, you will need a blue card if the usual activities of your business includes or is likely to include a person other than a registered health practitioner providing massage services for therapeutic or relaxation purposes to children.

You can apply for a blue card by submitting a 'Person carrying on a Business (B) application' form (PDF, 295KB)and selecting the 'health, counselling and support services' category of regulated employment.

Please note as a business operator, you must not commence work until after you have obtained a valid blue card.
