How do I apply?

What do I need to do?

If you don't have a blue card or exemption card...

For blue card application forms for foster carers, kinship carers and adult members of a foster carer’s or kinship carer’s household, please contact the Department of Communities on 3239 3521.

Blue card application forms for paid employees of a Licensed Care Service and nominees and directors of Licensed Care Services can be accessed from the Department of Communities website at www.childsafety.qld.gov.au.

People carrying out work inside a licensed residential facility in their capacity as a paid employee of an ancillary service provider should lodge this form.

Paid employee

If the person is a self-employed ancillary service provider, they should lodge this form.

Business

Volunteers of a licensed care service or an ancillary service provider at a licensed residential facility should lodge this form.

If you already have a current blue card or exemption card...

If you already hold a current blue card or exemption card, you must advise the Commission if you commence any new regulated child-related employment or volunteer work (including a practical placement as part of your studies with an education provider).

Please note, if you already hold a volunteer or student blue card (and did not pay the prescribed application fee) and you are proposing to operate a regulated business, you must transfer your blue card and pay the prescribed fee.

If your blue card has expired, or is due to expire soon...

If your blue card is due to expire, or has expired, and you are continuing to work in regulated child-related employment, you must complete a renewal blue card application form in full and lodge it with the Commission.

If you are a state government employee there are specific forms which can be obtained from your Department's HR or Screening area.

How much will it cost?

There is no application fee for foster and kinship carers, or adults occupants of a household.
