Paid employee assisting children and young people

I am a paid employee who assists children and young people who are participating in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Do I need a blue card?

Yes.

You need a blue card if you are a paid employee working in a school, church, club, association or sport and recreation facility and the usual functions of your work includes assisting children and young people participating in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award over a 12 month period for:

  • eight consecutive days, or
  • once a week each week over four weeks, or
  • once a fortnight each fortnight, over eight weeks, or
  • once a month each month over six months.

You are required to apply for a blue card through your employer organisation (eg. school, college, university, community organisation, sporting or social club). To apply, complete a Paid Employment (P) Application Form accompanied by the prescribed fee and tick the category of regulated employment most relevant to your child-related activity.

Note

As a paid employee you may begin or continue to work while your application is processed.
