Frequently Asked Questions

Registered teacher assisting children and young people at a school

I am a registered teacher assisting children and young people who are participating in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award at a school. Do I need a blue card?

No.

If the usual function of your employment at a school includes assisting children and young people participating in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, you are exempt from requiring a blue card under the schools – employees other than teachers and parents category of regulated employment due to the registered teacher exemption under that category.

However, if you are participating as a volunteer in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and this activity is unrelated to your employment as a registered teacher in a school, you may be required to obtain a blue card.
