Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteer assisting children and young people - not through a club or organisation

I want to volunteer with The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, but I am not affiliated with any club or organisation. Do I need a blue card?

Yes.

If you volunteer with children who are participating in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, but you are not associated or affiliated with a club or organisation, you will need to apply for a blue card by completing a Business (B) Application Form and ticking the sport and active recreation category of regulated business.

You will also need to complete a Statutory Declaration and state that you are participating in the Award in a voluntary capacity, not for profit. This will enable the Commission to waive the processing fee usually associated with business application forms.

The Office for Youth at the Department of Communities also requires you to complete an ‘Authorisation to confirm a valid blue card’ form and submit it to the Commission. This will authorise the Commission to notify the Office for Youth of the outcome of your application and any subsequent change in your blue card status. The ‘Authorisation to confirm a valid blue card’ form is available by clicking on the following link. If you require further information or assistance in completing this form please contact the Office for Youth on 1800 177 338 or (07) 3008 8780.
