Frequently Asked Questions

Applicants who do not have the required identification documents

What do I do if I do not have the required identification documents?

If you do not have identification documents as listed on the application form, you need to:

  • complete a ‘Request to consider alternative identification’ form
  • provide photocopies of alternative documents which together show your full name, date of birth and signature, and
  • lodge this form and your photocopies together with your application form to the Commission.

Examples of alternative documents may include:

  • Identification card from your place of employment
  • Library cards
  • Electoral enrolment letter
  • Expired bank statement or ATO assessment notice
  • Certificate of Aboriginality
  • The Commission’s Declaration of identity document

The Commissioner will consider your application on a case by case basis to determine whether the alternative identification documents you have provided will be sufficient to meet the Commission’s identification requirements.

 Note

For more information on how to complete the ‘Request to consider alternative identification’ form , see the ‘How to meet the identification requirements for a blue card application’ information sheet or call the Blue Card Contact Centre on 1800 113 611 (freecall) or 07 3211 6999 .
