Frequently Asked Questions

University

I am a member of a University Board. Do I need a blue card?

Yes.

Where the university carries on a regulated business such as a child care centre or counselling and support service for children and young people, executive officers of the university (whose principal place of residence is in Australia) must hold a blue card.

An executive officer is any person who is concerned with, or takes part in, the management of the corporation.

Other categories of business which might occur in connection with a university for which blue cards are required include:

  • counselling and support services
  • private teaching, coaching or tutoring
  • child care
  • education programs conducted outside of school
  • religious representatives
  • child accommodation services including home stays
  • sport and active recreation
  • hostel for children other than residential facility

You can apply for a blue card by submitting a Business (B) Application Form accompanied by the prescribed fee.

A person carrying on a child-related business must hold a blue card before they can begin the child-related activity.
