Frequently Asked Questions

Employed in a commercial bus company

I am a bus driver with a commercial company and I occasionally drive school students. Do I need a blue card?

No.

As you are authorised by Queensland Transport to drive a public passenger vehicle, you do not need a blue card.

When considering whether a person is suitable for driver authorisation, Queensland Transport carry out a criminal history check which takes into account a range of factors, including the need to protect children and other vulnerable members of the community.

However, if you change employment and are employed by a school as a bus driver, you may need a blue card, as your employment will then fall in the 'schools - employees other than teachers and parents' category of employment under the Commission's Act.
