Family Day Care

Can a Carer in a Licensed home based service providing a child care service through an arrangement with a Licensed Scheme commence this service once they have lodged an application for a blue card before they have been issued with a positive notice blue card?

The Child Care Act 2002 provides that a carer must not carry out a child care service in their home unless each adult occupant of the home holds a current blue card.

If the carer is the only adult in the home and there are no other adults who reside, or are usually present in the home when child care is provided, the carer can provide child care in their home once the Commission has received a completed Family Day Care - Carer application form.

However where there are adults that reside in the carer's home, or adults that are usually present in the home while child care is provided, a carer must not provide child care in the carer's home unless each of these adults hold a current blue card.

If you are unsure whether a person is an adult occupant and requires a blue card you should contact the Family Day Care Scheme.

An adult occupant may apply for a blue card by submitting an FDC - Occupant application form. The applicant's identity must be verified by a Justice of the Peace, Lawyer, Police Officer or Commissioner for Declarations. This application is processed free of charge.
