Home / About the Blue Card / FAQs / Child care
I am a member of the management committee or sub-committee at a child care centre. Do I need a blue card?
Yes.
Where the child care centre is managed by a corporation, each of the executive officers (whose principal place of residence is in Australia) need to have a blue card. This includes any person who is concerned with, or takes part in, the management of the corporation (regardless of the name given to the person’s position).
The volunteer parent exemption does not extend to the 'child care' category of regulated business under the Act. This means executive officers must hold a blue card even if their child attends the centre.
You can apply for a blue card by submitting a Child Care Business (CCB) Application Form with the required statutory declaration, declaring the work is performed voluntarily and not for financial reward. If a statutory declaration is attached to your application, there is no fee.
Note
Where an executive officer is appointed and does not hold a current blue card, they may start work providing they apply for a blue card, until the application is decided, withdrawn or lapsed.
Any executive officer may sight another officer's identification documents to satisfy proof of identification requirements.
