Paid employee at a child care centre to operate a playgroup

I am a carer engaged in a paid capacity by a child care centre to co-ordinate playgroups. Do I need a blue card?

Yes. If you are employed in a paid capacity as a carer in, or staff member of a "child care service", you will need a blue card if you carry out work, or are likely to carry out work, over 12 months, for:

  • eight consecutive days; or
  • once a week for each week during a period of four weeks; or
  • once a fortnight for each fortnight during a period of eight weeks; or
  • once a month for each month during a period of six months.

You can apply for a blue card by submitting a Paid Employment (P) Application Form accompanied by the prescribed fee. The “child care centre” is your employer for the purpose of the application process and must complete the employer details on the application form and sight your proof of identification documents to verify your identity.

Note

As a paid employee you may begin or continue work while your application is being processed.
