  • performing the function of employment at a national or state event organised by a school or "recognised body" (operating at a state or national level):
    • for a sporting, cultural or skill based activity, and
    • the event is attended by more than 100 people, and
    • the work is for 10 days or less on no more than two occasions per year; and
    • the person is unlikely to be physically present with a child without another adult being present.
  • a child under 18 years of age volunteering (except “trainee students” undertaking a course of study with an “education provider”)

How to apply

If you are an adult member of the Emergency Services Cadet Program with the Department of Emergency Services(DES) and you need a blue card, you need to complete the blue card application forms which have been pre-populated specifically for the DES Emergency Services Cadet Program. These are the only forms to be used by adult members when applying to obtain and renew their blue cards.

How to renew your blue card

The Commission will send you a renewal invitation 16 weeks before your blue card is due to expire. To ensure that you get the reminder, it is important that you inform the Commission of any change in your address or other personal details.

You may only renew your blue card if you are still in child-related employment. If you no longer require a blue card, you are unable to renew at this time. You are welcome to re-apply at a later date if you require a blue card in the future.

A renewal blue card application form has been pre-populated specifically for the DES Emergency Services Cadet Program. You will need to obtain this form by contacting Louise Herrod on 07 3247 8465.
