Viewing and downloading PDF files

To view and print portable document format (PDF) files, you can download Adobe Reader from the Adobe website

Adobe Reader enables you to:

  • view a document by selecting the link text.
  • save a document for later viewing by right-clicking your mouse on the link text and selecting Save Target As and saving the file in your preferred location.

If you have a Macintosh with a single button mouse:

  • save a document for later viewing by holding down the control key while you click your mouse on the link text. Select Save Link As or Download Link to Disk and save the file in your preferred location.

Problems opening PDFs

If you get an error message from Adobe Acrobat saying " The file is damaged and could not be opened, or Expected a dict. object, or your browser hangs and the PDF does not open:

In Adobe Acrobat disable the fast view, and Display PDF in browser options.

  • Close your browser.
  • Open Adobe Reader.
  • Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences
  • In the left column select Internet
  • Uncheck Allow fast web view
  • Uncheck Display PDF in browser
  • Click OK, and try again

The PDFs will display in a separate window rather than in your browser window.

Text resizing

This website allows you to change the size of the text on screen to suit your preferences.

Access Keys

Access keys enable a user to bring focus to page elements using the keyboard. This may assist those with motor skill difficulties and prove a convenience to all.

1 - home

2 - search

3 - help

PC / Windows: In internet explorer 'alt + the access key number' and in firefox 'shift + alt + the access key number' brings focus to the element. If a link, 'enter' will take the user to the linked destination.

Macintosh: 'control + the access key number' highlights the link, with 'return' taking the user to the destination page.
