Annexe Education and Outreach Programs

Benefits

Reports from adults who have worked for a number of years with the at-risk young people, have identified a lower incidence of self harm and generally a higher level of safety for the young people in the community. The young people are encouraged to take more responsibility for their actions and by doing this choose better consequences for themselves and others.

Many young people have been supported to reconnect with their families.

Indigenous programs in art, music and dance have encouraged the young people to take greater pride in their culture.  Workers in the program report that young people benefit from the program in many ways:
‘It builds their self esteem!’, ‘The young people own the program!’, ‘It builds their confidence!’, ‘They feel safe here!’, ‘Most of these young people need one-on-one support!’
